Visconti Brambilla Tarot + book
After six hundred years, for the first time, the publishing house Il Meneghello puts together the three Visconti decks in 42 cards.
A Milanese jewel of fifteenth century.
1200 numbered exemplaries.
A milestone in the history of tarots, the Tarocchi Visconti Brambilla is a wonder to behold. Possibly created even earlier than the Visconti Mondrone deck. The artwork exhibits a International Gothic Art ethos that gives the cards a dreamy fairy-tale quality. This set is named after Giovanni Brambilla, who acquired the cards in Venice in 1900. Since 1971 the deck has been in the catalogue of the Brera Gallery in Milan. Apparently commissioned to Bonifacio Bembo by Francesco Sforza in 1463, it now consists of 48 cards with only two trumps - the Emperor and the Wheel of Fortune. All face cards have a gilt background, while the pip cards have a silver one. This listing is for the stunning Il Meneghello edition of 1,200 decks created in 2021. The reproduction consists of the 48 existing cards. The seven remaining face cards are: Knight and Jack of cups; Knight and Jack of denari; Knight, Jack and Queen of bastoni. The only missing pip card is the four of denari is missing. A wonderful deck for art and Tarot historians - a true gem of the 15th century.
